Various hazardous organisms are going to be living in your carpet such as, mold, mildew, allergens, bed bugs, dust mites, salmonella, microorganisms, and viruses if you do not vacuum and clean your carpet on a semi – annual or annual basics. When you walk on dirty carpets the filth from the carpets then propels into the air. Animals, babies, and toddlers are at risk because they are the ones who spend the largest amount of time on the floor. It is important that when you are having your carpets cleaned that you are doing more than “spot removal”.   • Sodium Hydroxide
  • Sodium Carbonate
  • Perfluoro-octane Sulfonate (PFOS)
  • Tetrachloroethylene
  • Butoxyethanol
  • Glycol Ethers
  • Hydroxyacetic Acid
  • Hydrofluoric Acid
  • Nitrilotriacetic Acid

Step 2

When selecting your carpet cleaning provider make sure that they use non-toxic cleaning products and a low water cleaning process. If you decide it is best for you to clean your carpet yourself make sure you check out the options that you have for rentals in your local area. Additionally, when dealing with cleaning companies make sure that you find out what products they will be using before you hire them. If you are purchasing your own products be sure to read the label before making the purchase.

Step 3

To insure that the products that you are using are not going to be harmful to your baby research the ingredients on the U.S. Department of Health’s website.

Step 4

To reduce the chance of mold as well as increase the drying time of your carpet use large fans.

Step 5

After the carpet has been cleaned make sure that you keep the area cool and well ventilated.

Step 6

Wait at least four hours before allowing children into the area that has just been cleaned.
